Flandria 1962, 1964 - 1965
Peter Post was primarily a track cyclist, specializing in Six-Day racing, where he won 65 races of the 155 he started. Post also had considerable success on the road, his greatest achievement being victory in the 1964 Paris-Roubiax - the fist Dutchman to win the race, bringing to an end a 7-year run of Belgian wins. In a fast-paced race, Post made the break along with, Yvo Molenaeres, World Champion Benoni Beheyt, and Flandria team-mate Willy Bocklant. The high speed of the break surprised pre-race favourites Rik Van Looy, Raymond Poulidor and Rudi Altig. Bocklant sacrificed his own chances to keep the pace high, preventing the favourites from bridging the gap. Post comfortably won the sprint, beating the World Champion into second place. A spent Bocklant finished in fourth place, but in addition to helping his Flandria team-mate win, his pace allowed Post to claim the record for the fastest ever Paris-Roubaix, (a record which stood for 53 years until it was broken in 2017 by Greg Van Avermaet). Three weeks later Bocklant won Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Post is best remembered as a highly successful team manager. Following his retirement he formed the Dutch Ti-Raleigh team, and later became Director Sportif of the Raleigh-Panasonic team.
