Flandria 1972 - 1979
Marc Demeyer turned professional with Flandria in 1972. He signed the contract whilst resting it on the side of a car at the start of Dwars door Vlaanderen, which he then won. Demeyer was one of Flandria's “Three Musketeers” along with Freddy Maertens and Michel Pollentier.
Demeyer was primarily Maertens’ sprint lead-out man, although he was capable of winning, and did win stages himself. He was particularly suited to the Northern Classics and won the 1976 edition of Paris-Roubaix, famously captured in Jorgen Leth’s film “A Sunday in Hell”.
