The slide could not be halted and in May 1981 A.Claeys-Flandria was declared bankrupt.
Ironically, Remi Claeys’ company, Superia, who by this time were no longer selling bicycles, purchased the Flandria name from receivership. The wall that symbolized the quarter-century feud was taken down. The factory never achieved its former grandeur however, and in 1986 the production of Superia-Flandria bicycles ended. The Flandria brand name was once again purchased, this time by Cycles Splendor, a company from the Southern, Walloon Region of Belgium. A mere two years later, in 1988, Cycles Splendor itself was declared bankrupt.
The iconic Flandria name, which had become synonymous with cycling in Belgium sadly disappeared from the marketplace.
